This question comes up a lot most commonly for gamers of whether or not a p laptop can output 4k to another device. Most screens offer p which means that you are viewing a horizontal range of pixels. A 4k screen offers 4 times horizontal the pixel viewing area. For gamers, this is the peak of resolution viewing experience and most modern AAA titles look phenomenal in 4k. The first thing you should know is that your base screen resolution i. When you connect to your laptop to a 4k screen, your laptop screen comes completely out of the picture pun absolutely intended.
Think about it this way: if you were wanting to buy a laptop with a 4k screen, what pieces of hardware would you need to power that 4k screen? A good graphics card, of course; a decent processor; a heck of a lot of RAM.
Basically, all the things that make the laptop go. These are the same things we want to look at when we are determining whether or not your laptop can output 4k. Navigate to the Display tab. Now, you will be shown the specs of your graphics card. We just need the name of your graphics card, so write that down.
If you have a modern graphics card, you also probably have all the other hardware needed to run games and, by extension, output to 4K. Your graphics card simply cannot support it. Your laptop may crash or you will have abysmal frame rates if you try to run 4k on an unsupported card. The easiest way to do this is to connect your laptop to your 4k screen with an HDMI cable.
But not just any HDMI cable will do. HDMI 1. HDMI 2. It can output 4k just like the cables above. All of these cables will work tremendously well when outputting 4K from your laptop. This is the real kicker for outputting 4k from a laptop, regardless of your graphics card. You will likely struggle to run 60fps on settings that you are used to likely High or Ultra quality. Your resolution settings may need to be adjusted to Medium or even Low to reach 60fps on modern, graphics heavy games. So, keep this in mind when you are outputting 4k from your laptop. While it is entirely possible for you to output 4k from your laptop regardless of screen resolutionthere are some things you will need to remember before you do so.
First, make sure your graphics card can support 4k resolution. Then, adjust your resolution settings in order to achieve the frame rate you feel most happy with.
Laptop hardware makes leaps and bounds with each new graphics card series, so I do not think it will be long before we can game with the same glorious resolution as our desktop counterparts. The number varies, but the gist is always the same. People want to use Resolume with lots of outputs, and they're looking for the best option. It's not an easy question to answer, because there is not a clearcut technical solution.
Resolume and Spout
We like to help you choose the right option. This document covers most starting situations and will help you choose the best solution for your situation. Here is a list of options in order of preference:.
The order of preference is a combination of how well the setup performs and how reliable it is to set up. In other words, the further down the list you get, the less we recommend using this setup. Keep in mind this recommendation can vary considerably depending on your particular use-case, requirement and skill level. When using a TripleHead or Datapath, you use up only one of your available ports.
These are extenders, so they take a larger image and then use their own hardware to divide it over its multiple outputs. Since the max resolution per port of your card is well over 4K, you can extend a single port to four times HD on a Datapath or three times p on a Matrox if its firmware supports that. Your computer will see the extender as a single, larger output, in addition to the other outputs you have connected. When using a MST hub, you can change a single output into three outputs.
Each of the outputs will show as an individual discrete display on your computer. An MST hub does not extend your output. This means you are still limited to the maximum number of outputs your GPU supports. Adding a 3-way MST hub to an Nvidia card with a 4 port maximum,means you will only be able to use one other port on the card.
The other two will be disabled. When each output functions as its own independent surface or collection of surfaces, you have nothing to worry about. Frame-sync will not be an issue. For instance, your stage is made up of 12 LED screens, 8 on the first output, and 4 on the second.
In this case, the outputs don't have to be frame-sync. If you have a surface which is "stitched" together out of two or more projectors, or out of LED screens controlled by multiple processors, frame-sync does matter. Without frame-sync, each output will operate on its own timing. This means each output will refresh a few milliseconds before or after its neighbour.
This will result in "horizontal tearing" between the screens. For a few milliseconds, one side of the surface will already show the next frame, while the other side is still showing the previous frame. Blackmagic SDI outputs always require an external hardware reference clock to stay sync.
This is always the best, most reliable and best performing option. Resolume does all the rendering on the GPU that has the monitor that is set as the main display on it. By using a single GPU for all outputs, you get the best possible performance.

These channels can be used for either input or output. By default the Decklink Quad2 is mapped to use only 4 of its channels with the same port mapping as the previous Decklink Quad card.
Each of these 4 channels can be input or output. Choose one of the port numbers such as 1 demonstrated below and open its properties by clicking the centre button. Change this to SDI 1. Once saved, all 8 ports on the card can be used individually for either input or output. When using LED processors, you can scale and resize your output to exactly fit the needs of the processor. If you are using DMX controlled lights, you can choose which fixtures you need to send to. The Advanced Output is available on both Avenue and Arena. To get everything it has to offer, you will need Arena. If you want to know the nitty gritty of all the features of the Advanced Output, everything is covered in the following chapters:. It's possible to switch between different screen setups. Using the dropdown in the top left of the Advanced Output window, you can save and select different setups. This is especially useful when you are playing weekly gigs at different venues that each require a specific setup. Using the preset system, you can just select the appropriate setting from the list, without having to recreate it again.
Installing & Registering
This also means that your output setup is not tied to a certain composition. You can use different setups with the same composition, and use different compositions with the same setup.
It also allows you to share presets between computers. After saving, the preset can be found as an. Browsing is for suckers. Choose Reveal in Finder or Explorer from the dropdown and you will be taken right to the correct file on your computer. You can copy this file to the same folder on the other computer.
You can then load the preset via the dropdown. When loading a preset via the dropdown, it will be automatically copied to the correct folder in Documents. Back to support.

So far so good. Is it possible to capture the output HD, 4k of a graphics card and output and send it to spout? What I need is to display the content of a web page inside resolume 5 and map the output in the projectors. If you have it working, then in theory you should be able to use any sized texture that the application can generate. Does Resolume do what you want? To get 4K output maybe you could use a capture device.
I am not sure whether it takes a graphics card as input. Maybe there is another device that would do it.

Spout for Chrome or a browser. Maybe this could do what you want to do. Since then I have enhanced it somewhat, but the code is out of date and I would need to spend time to revive it. The idea is to display the content of the web page in resolume. Using spout, I could eventually bypass the need to buy a decklink card and the need to have a second computer being used as a source.
Thank you leadedge for letting me know about Awesomium. Some pages are being closed after some time, seems randomlly… Have you came across it? And is it possible to configure custom page resolution? I have not seen pages closing. But I have not used this at all. The resolution is fixed to that of the Awesomium window when it starts. This was a quick test to prove the concept. I have the source code based on the Awesomium webflow example if you know anybody who wants to look into it further.
In all the pages trying to get a left mouse click to enter some other page will not work. I tried the Awesomium webflow application and it does have limitations. It is not designed to be a browser, so there is no navigation control. I could play videos OK, but it crashed when the pages were scrolled.Most laptops have a webcam, so on laptops this is usually the first option.
Also any USB webcams you have connected will show up automagically. To use a live input, simply drag it from the list on an empty clip slot. It will become a clip that you can trigger and eject. To go beyond the basics of a webcam, you can use a capture device.
Professional Video I/O with Thunderbolt™ 3 Performance
Capture devices come in all shapes and sizes. Some are external boxes that connect via USB or Thunderbolt, some need to be built in to your computer. You can connect a proper broadcast camera via SDI to the capture device. Then you can use the input in Resolume to make PIPs or further process the image. Of course you can also connect a computer's output via HDMI, and use it to display another VJs output, or a speaker's Powerpoint presentation. On a Mac, video capture runs via AV Foundation.
On a PC, we use DirectShow. This means that if your capture device with simple capture applications like Quicktime X, OBS or Skype, it's likely to work in Resolume. Aside from using the system capture system, Resolume also has native support for a few brands of capture devices.
This means you get maximum quality with minimal latency. Native support means that Resolume gets the image directly from the device. It does not have to be processed by your computer's CPU first. Skipping this step means that the delay between input and output is a low as possible. How low latency is low latency? That depends on the resolution, framerate, the connection type, the device and your computer hardware.
For devices connected via PCIe or Thunderbolt, you can expect something in 60msms range on p For USB3. Zero latency is a pipe dream. You will get the lowest latency by connecting your camera straight to the display device.
Even then, your display hardware will introduce a little bit of latency. Native support means that you can use multiple devices at the same time. If the device supports multiple inputs, you can use all those inputs at the same time. If your device supports it, Resolume will autodetect the connection, resolution, color space and framerate it's currently using. If your device does not support autodetect, you will need to enter these things manually.
